Owner Donnell Digby, a proud South Shore resident, articulated his vision during the opening ceremony that, as a Southsider from South Shore, he wanted to bring some soul back to a space that once wouldn’t have allowed them to be there. He added that they were bringing some elevated soul food to South Shore. “This is historic,” Trice noted. Everyone desires to be able to have dinner or a glass of wine with lunch at their neighborhood restaurant while strolling there. It is anticipated that Nafsi would act as an anchor for future development, encouraging both residents and visitors to invest in the local economy.
As the South Shore community embraces this new dining option, the restaurant is expected to contribute significantly to local culture and commerce. Digby’s commitment extends beyond just food; he envisions Nafsi as a place for gatherings, celebrations, and community engagement.
“Every other corridor has large amounts of restaurants and outdoor space,” Digby pointed out. “We need more where we live.” His vision includes hosting events that highlight local artists, musicians, and cultural celebrations, creating a multifaceted space that serves as a cultural hub for the neighborhood.
